The term Rotary Compressors can actually be used to describe several different types of compressor mechanisms. The one thing they have in common is that the air inside is being compressed through the rotating action of some internal component.

Reciprocating Compressors

Reciprocating compressors are positive displacement machines in which the compressing and displacing element is a piston having a reciprocating motion within a cylinder. They are broadly two types:

a) High Speed (Separable)
b) Low Speed (integral)
